THREE PLEIN AIR PAINTINGS

Join Turner Vinson as he ventures into the Montana landscape on a warm February afternoon. In this demonstration video, Turner shares his supplies, materials, goals, and intentions while completing three plein air paintings in a single session—with wonderful texture and energy.

As he paints, Turner narrates his process, highlighting the key elements of the landscape that inspire him. Always seeking a deeper connection, he pushes beyond mere representation, and strives to capture not just nature’s visual beauty but also its raw and emotional power.

Follow along as Turner challenges himself to translate the landscape’s essence onto canvas, inviting you to consider your own approach to plein air painting, and how to explore new ways of seeing and responding to the natural world.

About Turner

Growing up in a small town in Texas, Turner wasn’t exposed to the world of fine art until college, where an interest in photography led him to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011. After college he continued developing himself as an artist with a two year apprenticeship with an oil painter in Boise, Idaho. Soon after studying he fell in love with plein air painting and has now painted from coast to coast in the US and has made a few international excursions as well. In 2018, Turner, his wife and fellow artist, Teysha, and their two (now three) kids hit the road for a year of traveling and creating artwork around the country and to look for a new home in the mountain west. Turner’s work can be found in private collections across the county as well as in Canada and Europe. Turner and his family now live and work out of the beautiful Bitterroot Valley in Montana.
